As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote, move towards the Republican National Convention in Charlotte this August, and prepare to participate in the 2020 Census, the time is ripe to discuss the importance of civic engagement to community change. 

How do we move the needle for our community when direct service and programming alone cannot fully address the challenging social issues we face? We will gather a panel of local female leaders who will discuss the importance of advocacy, public will, government, and civic engagement. 

 

Our conversation will be moderated by award-winning journalist, Mary C. Curtis. Others on the panel include:

 

  • Patrice Funderburg, Executive Director of the Center for Community Transitions;
  • Susan Harden, Mecklenburg County Commissioner;
  • Wendy Mateo Pascual, founder and Principal Consultant at Crossways Consulting;
  • Cyndee Patterson, President of the Lee Institute and former at-large Charlotte City Council Member and Mayor Pro Tem; and
  • Susan Roberts, Professor of Political Science and Gender and Sexuality Studies at Davidson College.
