A Letter from Board Chair Lisa Miller

July, 2019

2019 will be a pivotal year for Women’s Impact Fund. For the first time in our history, we have hired an Executive Director. I am deeply grateful to the 158 women who supported the vision of our founders in 2003, wrote a check, rolled up their shirtsleeves, and made this organization what it is. Initially it was built and operated by volunteers and to this day continues to thrive on the time and talents of our volunteer leaders. As we reach 500 members, $6M in grants, and countless educational, networking and social events, we realize that it is time for professional staff to guide us through the next chapter. Women’s Impact Fund is one of the largest women’s collective giving organizations in the country, both in members and dollars granted. We continue to expand our membership, program offerings, and grantmaking impact. The growth is exciting. And there is so much more to come. Our future is bright!

As we start this year, I think about the community we build, serve, and to which we belong. Our members come together through their passion for philanthropy and the Charlotte community. Through that bond we create a community uniquely our own. We meet women who previously were strangers. We connect with women who share our passions. Celebrating the range of our diversity, we work together to forge a better Charlotte for all.

A letter from Board Chair Lisa Miller

We strive to lift up those in need, fund those solving complex problems, and provide opportunities to those sustaining, celebrating, and connecting our neighbors and fellow humans. The women of WIF have a deep commitment to this community.

We also belong to a larger community – a community of more than 60 women’s collective giving networks nationwide. Our sister organizations (including WIF) have granted more than $120M collectively, and are deeply committed to high impact grantmaking, developing women’s leadership, diverse and inclusive membership, engaged and educated members, and democratic processes. In February, we will have the opportunity to come together as a community and learn from our peer organizations at Catalist’s conference hosted by the Washington Women’s Foundation (the original women’s collective giving organization). We look forward to the opportunities to engage, learn, and share all that surely will be offered. And equally as vital, we will meet and forge relationships with our sister philanthropists and leaders across the nation.

It is with excitement, determination, and humility that I turn to the challenge of leading this organization. I am delighted to be doing this in partnership with our new Executive Director, Patricia Massey Hoke. Together, with our new Membership Coordinator, and talented Board of Directors and Board of Advisors, we look forward to a successful and impactful year full of growth and community building. I thank each of you for this opportunity and for your partnership is this organization.

In partnership,

Lisa Miller
