The Community Impact Committee met with the Carolina Farm Trust team in what will soon be their first community distribution center aimed at addressing inequities in Charlotte’s food systems. The facility will process farm-fresh produce and include space for retail and wholesale produce, making it easier for communities located in food deserts to participate in a healthy food system. Another goal is for Carolina Farm Trust’s partnership with StarMed, Food is Medicine, to provide access to health services and screenings at these distribution centers. Once piloted, the hope is for there to be more distribution centers throughout Charlotte.

Carolina Farm Trust has also been busy building out their Urban Farm at Aldersgate and Free Spirt Farm, delivering food to senior citizen nutrition sites, and running their mobile pantry. They have some exciting events coming up including Night at the Museum on May 11, 2023, at the Mint Museum Randolph. Carolina Farm Trust also welcomes volunteers at these events to help on their farms. For more information, contact Carolina Farm Trust here.
