Women’s Impact Fund is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We seek to apply a DEI lens to all components of our mission.
We realize that we are a work-in-progress and that to ensure real, actionable change, we must take time to reflect, listen, and learn. In April 2022, the Board of Directors approved eleven recommendations related to our DEI learning and based on feedback from stakeholders including nonprofit partners. The majority of these have been integrated into our operations, though we continue to evaluate and refine our work.
In June 2021, the Board of Directors adopted the following statement to guide our diversity, equity, and inclusion work:
We are a curious, growth-minded organization and strive to approach our work with humility and a willingness to listen and learn. We commit to being a better partner and sharing power with the community and each other.
Our History
Since 2003, the Women’s Impact Fund has grown from a special initiative to a leading nonprofit organization with almost 500 members in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded by Claire Tate and Mary Lou Babb, in 2004, we awarded initial grants of $158,000. Today, we have awarded $8.1+ million in grants to more than 100 nonprofit organizations in Mecklenburg County. We lead in philanthropy, women’s education, and engagement in the region.
