Angela Oliver joined WIF in 2012 as she was looking to get more involved in the community and meet other women that believed in civic engagement and philanthropy.  “I knew Sonja Nichols through another organization and if you know Sonja, she is a great salesperson!” Angela states. One of the things she has loved about WIF is that it is adaptable to every season of life. “When I first joined, I had three young kids at home, each involved in extracurricular activities, in addition to my full-time job. Still, I was able to be an active member of the Member Education Committee,” she notes. From there, she went on to become a Member at Large on the Board, a member of the Governance Committee and has now returned to the Board as Secretary.  “Each role has been different and fun in its own way but also introduced me to new women, new Charlotte organizations, and our amazing leadership and staff,” Angela says.

Given her tenure in WIF, Angela’s advice for women joining WIF holds much weight.  She recommends “getting involved at the level your current life allows, but strongly consider becoming active in a committee because that is where you will begin to make real connections with other members. Those friendships will then enrich your WIF experience overall and provide the friends you look forward to seeing at our events, in meetings, and in the community.”

In addition to her work with WIF, Angela is also on the executive board of WFAE National Public Radio Station. Additionally, she keeps busy with her three children – twin girls that are about to graduate from college and a son that is a sophomore in college. She also has (and adores!) a chocolate lab.  While born and raised in Harlem in New York City, Angela has lived in Charlotte for the past 12 years – first in Ballantyne and now in the South Park area (both of which she loves, for different reasons!).

Professionally, Angela is a Global Talent Executive for Bank of America.  Her team is responsible for career development and employee engagement as well as talent processes such as performance reviews and succession planning.  She is also Chair of the Global Human Resources Diversity and Inclusion Council.  Before joining the bank in 2014, Angela led professional development functions at large international law firms.  Law runs in her blood as she began her career as a corporate lawyer at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and was later in-house counsel at The Ford Foundation.  Angela’s degrees are from Columbia University School of Law and the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Political Science.
