Throughout the summer, we will feature interviews with some of the new members of the 2023-2024 Board of Directors. Meet Katie Susong, our Incoming Board Chair.

For those that do not know you, can you provide a brief background on yourself?

I have been a member of the Women’s Impact Fund since 2014 and have been lucky to be a member of most committees offered. Prior to that, I had the pleasure of serving as a volunteer with many organizations including Levine Children’s Hospital, Make-A-Wish, and Alexander Youth Network. Professionally, I am a CPA and work in derivative accounting and financial reporting at Wells Fargo. As a North Carolina native, I love Tarheel games and trips to the coast.  I recently celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary and have two hilarious and kind children. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading good books, and trying out new recipes.

What makes WIF’s purpose or mission meaningful to you?

I have always loved being part of a team and value the greater impact we can have together. This applies not only in our grantmaking, but in our desire to educate our membership and create an engaged community. I am honored to be a part of the leadership of this organization.

What energizes/ motivates you?

People!

I love a dinner out with my husband, a casual cup of coffee with a friend, a dance party with my kids, or a full gala celebration. Through these connections, I enjoy sharing experiences, catching up on the day-to-day, or getting to know a new friend.

What are you the most excited about for the upcoming year?

I am so excited about the women who will be joining our Board for the first time! There are several new faces and I look forward to working and getting to know each of them. It’s an amazing part of this organization to have so many women to befriend and learn from; especially when you wouldn’t normally overlap in your regular schedule.

What advice do you have for members to make the most out of their WIF membership?

Join a committee! If you’re up for it, pick something completely different than your normal tasks. One of the most wonderful parts of this organization is the opportunity to learn and develop new skills from individuals excited to share their experience and knowledge.

What is your favorite restaurant in Charlotte?

My family loves to celebrate birthdays at Zio (they’ve even shared toys with my toddlers to help stretch our time out, which is amazing) and Stagioni for a date night or ladies’ night out. The setting is intimate, and the food is incredible. I am partial to carbs and cheese!
