Member Spotlight: Nikki Jarrell

Learn more about Nikki Jarrell, our Past Board Chair, and what she calls the “multiplier effect”.

Can you provide a brief background on yourself for those who do not know you?
I was born in Houston, Texas, but grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta. After college, I ventured north to Indianapolis, eager to explore a different part of the country. However, after experiencing the grey and dreary Midwestern winter and being so far away from family and friends, I realized I had to move back to the southeast, which led me to Charlotte over 20 years ago.
I currently live in Plaza Midwood with my husband, six year old son, and two dogs. Outside of work in tax consulting, I absolutely love traveling and exploring new places as well as spending time with family and friends.
What makes our purpose or mission meaningful to you?
By working together and with other organizations collectively, there is a “multiplier” effect that results, creating an impact that far exceeds what we can achieve individually. I have been fortunate to witnessed this effect firsthand on numerous occasions, and I find that aspect of our purpose to be so incredibly powerful.
What energizes/ motivates you? It can be anything from a quotation, a song, a person, a workout routine, etc.
I love a great quote! One that particularly motivates me is William James’ “the greatest use of a life is to spend it on something that will outlast it.” Like most of us, I often find myself bogged down with trivial matters at work and home. This quote provides me perspective – reminding me time and life is finite, to let go of the “small stuff,” and focus my time and energy on meaningful actions with a lasting impact.
What are you the most excited about for this year?
What excites me most about the coming year is welcoming our new Executive Director. Although we will certainly miss Patricia and her invaluable contributions, Women’s Impact Fund is in a position of strength that offers unique opportunities for the new Executive Director. I am excited to see how this transition will sustain our incredible growth and continue to propel our organization forward.
Advice to make the most out of your Women’s Impact Fund membership?
Get involved in a way that feels right for you as that is the beauty of your Women’s Impact Fundmembership! I love our events, and I can honestly say there has not been one yet where I have not met someone new or learned something valuable. I have also encountered so many incredible women whom I might not have met otherwise, just by attending.
If you have the capacity to join a committee or take on a leadership role, do it! I have had the privilege of working with and learning from the most talented women, forming meaningful connections and friendships along the way. I have also had the opportunity to grow and enrich my life in many expected, and unexpected, ways.
What is your favorite restaurant or activity in Charlotte?
Such a difficult question as there are so many great ones, but I would say one of my favorites is The Cellar. I also love Soul Gastrolounge, and am eagerly anticipating their reopening in their new space.
