CARE RING

2015
$90,000 to hire a Spanish-speaking nurse to expand the Nurse-Family Partnership program, which pairs first-time, low-income pregnant women with registered nurses beginning early in pregnancy through the child’s second birthday. Since receiving their WIF grant, the program has grown from 8 nurses to hiring a 12th nurse this year, effectively allowing them to increase their active caseload capacity from 200 to 300 families. Over 1,000 families have been enrolled since the program began in 2008, which translates to the prevention of 57 preterm births, 107 closely spaced, high-risk second pregnancies, 91 child maltreatment incidents, 124 violent crimes, 49 youth arrests, 204 person-years of youth substance abuse, and three infant deaths.
