CHARLOTTE CENTER FOR LEGAL ADVOCACY (Formerly Legal Services of Southern Piedmont)

2012
$80,000 to establish Legal Services for Veterans, an initiative to provide legal representation to lower-income veterans seeking disability benefits, and to assist them in other legal matters related to their military service. The program has since expanded into Union and Cabarrus Counties and started Military Mondays, where veterans can stop by during office hours held in a coffee shop to determine whether the organization can help them. Their growth has allowed them to extend their services to complex veterans and expand the services they provide beyond Veteran Administration benefits or discharge updates. In total, over 2,000 veterans and veteran families have been served by Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy.
