$71,000 to expand the Great Outdoors University of Greater Charlotte, a program providing meaningful, life-changing outdoor experiences for children. By the end of their grant period, they served 22,381 participants through GoU day trips and events and had 36 destination and participant partners. Since then, GoU expanded to more than 70 partners and grew to serving 26,561 participants with 150 day trips and 19 Family Fun Day events in 2019. Their activities help connect children to nature while the curriculum is aligned with the state’s goals for science. To date, more than 100,000 North Carolinians have experienced a GoU activity.
