TEEN HEALTH CONNECTION (THC)

2010
$80,000 to expand Girls Educated to be Motivated and Successful (GEMS). The health education and mentoring program served approximately 30 girls at 4 different middle and high schools. None of the girls in the program got pregnant and there was a high rate of high school completion. Following the program, the girls wanted to be the ones helping to give the service. GEMS then transitioned into the teen advisory board (TAB) which focuses on leadership in the community and avoiding underage substance abuse. This merge allowed TAB to be more diverse and a much richer experience for all those involved.
