Tutor Charlotte received our inaugural SPARK grant. We invested $50,000 in a startup collaborative effort led by Read Charlotte and United Way of the Central Carolinas to provide reading tutors to 20,000 kindergarten and first grade CMS students. These tutors are trained in “active” reading and work one on one with students. In addition to the financial investment, Women’s Impact Fund volunteers committed to tutoring in a Tutor Charlotte classroom at Billingsville Elementary School for the 2018-2019 academic year.
