Staff Spotlight: Shannan Younger
In this short blog post, we’re getting to know our new Membership & Operations Manager, Shannan Younger. Read along to learn more about Shannan; including the sweet Valentine’s Day gift her husband gave to her this year!

Can you provide a brief background on yourself for those who do not know you?
I’ve worn several different hats in my career, including an attorney, a writer, a non-profit professional, and commitment to service and impact has been the through thread connecting them all. We moved to Charlotte in the summer of 2020 from Chicago and it quickly felt like home. I’m a big Notre Dame sports fan, having earned both my undergraduate and law degree there.
What makes our purpose or mission meaningful to you?
The WIF mission is meaningful to me because I am deeply aligned with WIF’s core values. I believe in the strength of the collective and the power of synergy to create change. And the focus on doing so through women’s leadership? Yes!
What energizes/ motivates you? It can be anything from a quotation, a song, a person, workout routine, etc.
I’m a history buff and really love reading about inspirational women who often didn’t make the headlines but did make an impact. I love the Mother Theresa quote, “There are no great acts, only small acts done with great love.” And when I need to act with great energy, I find that blasting some 80s tunes often gives me the necessary boost!
What are you the most excited about for this year?
I’m so grateful that I started in time to attend the Annual Meeting! I’m also excited to meet as many of our amazing members as I can. I’ve been really energized by everyone I’ve met thus far and keep thinking, “She’s so kind, smart and interesting! I’d love to get to know her better!” I also cannot wait to soak up all the wonderful lessons shared by inspiring leaders at Women & Wisdom.
Advice to make the most out of your Women’s Impact Fund membership?
I heard someone say that everyone’s “why” for joining WIF is different, and they’re all fabulous reasons. I think being really clear on your why is important to make your involvement as meaningful as possible but also asking other members about their why could offer some interesting perspectives and maybe enhance your own.
What is your favorite restaurant or activity in Charlotte?
Optimist Hall is a favorite for my family because with so many dining options, there’s something for everyone and agreement isn’t necessary. Charlotte Knights games are a favorite activity. My husband even had their mascot, Homer the Dragon, deliver my Valentine gift this year, so I think that makes us diehard fans!
